Foshan (“Fo” for short) is a prefecture-level city with an administrative area of 3,797.72 km2 in Guangdong Province. It is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, in the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, with Guangzhou on the east and Zhongshan on the south. Together with Guangzhou, it is included into the “Guangfo-Metropolitan Circle”, which aims to vigorously promote cooperation between the two cities, and create international metropolitan area. It is also one of the cities in the Pearl River Delta, a key node of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area), as well as an important part of “Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Economic Circle” and “Pearl River-West River Economic Belt”.
Foshan is a famous historical and cultural city in China. Its urban center was listed among the four famous commercial centers and the four well-known towns in China. And it is known as the hometown of pottery, martial arts and Cantonese opera. It is also a famous city of the dragon boat and lion dance culture. Foshan is the birth place of Cantonese opera and the place where Guangfu culture was bred, flourished and inherited.
Foshan is one of the areas with the most developed private economy in China and takes a lead in the economic development of Guangdong Province. It is a crucial manufacturing base in China, an economic and trade center in the west wing of the Pearl River Delta and a comprehensive transportation hub designated by the State Council.
